Birds are Jerks

Birds on a Wire-1

Every time at around this year there’s a massive grackle migration that passes through Austin. I think they’re grackles anyway, that’s what everyone calls them. It’s really beautiful; like black snow that makes the trees bend down. I always end up pulling the car over each year and trying to shoot bird pictures with a 17-40mm lens.

Today I only shot three pictures. While I was taking the second, I suddenly felt wetness on my right hand, on the web between thumb and forefinger; a slimy black and white toadstool. Trying to keep the camera clean, I balanced it awkwardly and shot my free hand out explosively to startle the birds (also, I was angry). They flew, my haphazard posture somehow threw my camera strap in front of my lens, and I took the third picture.

My first picture taken with poopie on me. The first of many, I’m sure!
