SET: Felice Black and White

Felice-6

I sometimes moonlight weddings and portraits. These are a few photographs from a dance studio shoot with Felice. At least two of these are inappropriate for a headshot / portfolio, which may be why I like them.

This is also my first time doing black and white conversions in Lightroom, start to finish. I rarely shoot black and white (I like to think in Color), but when I do, I’ve always done conversions using the Channel Mixer in photoshop. For efficiency I’m now trying to use Photoshop as little as possible in my workflow, so here’s my 5 cent review:

Lightroom B&W is quick, powerful, and intuitive. On the other hand, it lacks the accuracy of photoshop and has a tendency to introduce chroma-noise to the B&W image. The inability to selectively dodge and burn or apply adjustment layers and masks greatly limits the utility of the product. I’ll use LR for speed, but it can’t touch photoshop for control.
